Do-it-Yourself Enclosure Design and Build Begin by selecting an small enclosure at least 12" deep for most industrial applications. Various sizes are listed bottom of Saginaw page. Saginaw Controls - SCE-30EL3012LPPL 30 x 30 x 12 enclosure Next select a Fused Disconnect. Remember the current rating will likely be the sum of the breakers you have chosen. BACO Controls - 0177009LS 25 Amp 3-Pole Body, Handle, Shaft, and Alignment Cone. Yellow/Red handle
Add a Din mounted Fuse holder and Fuses. Also add a Distribution Block to each Breaker. Edison - JM60030-3CR Bussmann Modular J-Fuse Block pg 8-32
JHL10-1 JHL Series 10 Amp PDB104-3 Edison open power distribution block Pg 9-8 PBC21 Edison Transparent Block Cover Code requires a UL489 breaker to protect each power component. Eaton offers the widest variety of breakers that we found. Each breaker is sized for max Inrush or rated max current draw, which ever is largest. Select # of poles for each device. UL1077 breakers can be used to protect 24V to PLC's, etc.
Eaton - FAZ-B25/1-NA B CURVE, 25A, 1P, UL489 FAZ-B25/2-NA B CURVE, 25A, 2P, UL489 FAZ-B25/3-NA B CURVE, 25A, 3P, UL489 Thermal magnetic overcurrent protection: three levels, categorized by B, C and D curves in direct relation to continuous rating of the device B curve magnetic trip point: 3 to 5 times the rated current, typically used for computers and electronic loads with very low inrush currents (PLC wiring). C curve magnetic trip point: 5 to 10 times the rated current, typically used for small transformers, pilot devices, etc.
D curve magnetic trip point: 10 to 20 times the rated current, typically used for transformers or devices with very high inductive loads. A communications interface is often required for sealed enclosures. Mencom - DB09F-RJ45-10LS Panel Interface to DB9F, RJ45 in a 10LS housing All wires begin or terminate on a terminal block. We recommend ferrules and labels be used for each wire. Personal preference is for 2 tier blocks. Phoenix Contact - 3044814 UTTB 4 2 Tier Block 0800886 ENS35N 2 Tier End Clamps
0801733 NS35/7.5 Din Rail
All wire should be conveyed via wire duct within the enclosure. 2" is the minimum you will want to use, any smaller gets tight quick. Ty-Duct - TYD2X3NPG6 Wire Ducting 2 x 3” TYD2CPG6 Wire Duct 2” COVER A 24V Power supply is required for most industrial enclosures. This is not a good area to save money. A supply should have sufficient inductance to ride through a brown-out and always maintain clean DCV for control components. Remember all control is 24 VDC. Inductive loads like 48 DCV powered Servo or Step motors require a switched supply exhibiting large inductance to absorb current spikes. PULS Power - QS40.481 Power Supply, 960W, 100-240VAC 1PH, 48-54VDC, 20-17.8A
QS10.DNET DeviceNet Power Supply, 192W, 100-240VAC 1PH, 24VDC, 8A
Inexpensive Mini Contactors are always tough to find. We found one from WEG that has a 10A rating:
WEG - CWCA0-31-00L03 3 NO / 1 NC 10A Relay 24v Control Coil low consumption Allied - MTW Wire ALLIED WIRE & CABLE Catalog Pg B10 / 11 MTW Wire (UL 1028 / 1283 / 1284) is the preferred wire for enclosure builds. Stranded wire retains its shape when bent. This makes for a neat and precise appearance. Colors follow the old resistor color code sequence: - 0 Black - 5 Green - 1 Brown - 6 Blue - 2 Red - 7 Violet - 3 Orange - 8 Gray - 4 Yellow - 9 White Select Wire Gauge and Roll Length then contact us for discounted pricing.
Safety made Simple Safety Light Curtain Beam spacing is the distance between beams. Offering is as follows: 14mm, 20mm - Finger Safe 24mm, 30mm - Hand Safe 40mm, 90mm - Leg and Arm Select height of protection area. Consult factory on available option: Muting, Blanking or initiation Leuze - MLC 500 series Select spacing above. Category 4, PLe MLD 500 series Perimeter guard Safety Relay Leuze - 50133004 MSI-SR-LC31AR-01 Safety Relay for light curtains Area Scanner A light beam is emitted that continuously scans 270 degrees from the scanner horizontally or vertically. Areas are programmed as Safe, Warning or Guarded. Also considered Category 4, PLe (Performance Level e) Leuze - RSL400 series Select range to 8 Meters and Field Pairs requirements. Area Radar Instead of a line scan, Radar protects a 3D area. When motion is sensed within the area the machine is switched to a safe state.. Category 3, PLd protection. Leuze - LBK-S01-LZ series Select with or without shielding Doors Guards Doorways require 2 dissimilar switches to achieve Catagory 4, PLe. NOTE: Exception is RFID / Transponder style switches cannot be defeated. IDEM Universal Gate Box utilizes transponder technology IDEM - UGB-KLT Universal Gate Box with Safety Interlocking The 2 switch method is accomplished using solenoid locking switches IDEM - KLP-P2L Tongue Switch with Guard Locking GBA-1 Locking Gate Bolt for use with Tongue Switches K series HSM Second safety switch is a Hinge Switch Emergency Stop Buttons Estops are listed here because IDEM sales its 3 pole, forced guided, safety relays in boxed enclosures to maintain safety conformance standards. IDEM - ES series (3 pole) Standard Duty E Stop Rope Pull Switches A Rope Pull is to be used along conveyors or long machines. When properly tensioned a pull or a break will trigger the safety function. Lesser brands will exhibit temperature fluctuation faults, since mechanical spring tension will vary. IDEM - GL series Rope Pull Switches Safety Relays Viper Safety relays offer a wide variety of safety functions including cascading of multiple functions. IDEM - Viper series Safety Realy with added diagnostics Trap Keys Trap keys are a non-electric method for locking out machine function. Multiple keys can be utilized by different departments to insure all personnel are accounted for prior to machine reactivation. IDEM - Skorpion series Trap key protection
